Young Women Talk About Value of Mentors
Katy Wagner, chairman of the District LWML Young Women's Committee, received the following comments from young LWMLers regarding their experience with mentors. Who is mentoring the young women in your congregation?
From Linda Juul, Two Rivers, WI
I do have a very good friend who shares my faith. We attend church and church functions together because our husbands do not. She invited me to Bible study when things seemed to be caving in on me. We share the happy times and the sad. We enjoy stamping, scrapbooking, our Red Hat Society group, shopping, and getting together with our families. Currently we have agreed to be responsible for teaching my grandson (& her nephew) about Jesus. At first it seems strange that we are friends........but it is part of God's perfect plan. Debbie's younger sister passed away about 18 years ago and I ended up marrying her brother-in-law. Fortunately we are best friends.
From Catie Welzen,McHenry, IL Ruth Kruegar (SWD LWML VP for Human Care and Grants) introduced me to LWML and she supports me in my Christian walk. I learned how to be a good Christian woman by the examples she sets. We do the garage and craft sales, she was one of my Sunday School teachers, and we have church holiday parties together with the whole church. Also I know that if I ever need her, all I have to do is give her a call and she will listen to me and be there for me.
From Marie Adams, West Bend, WI
My special someone who God put beside me is Marsha Bieneke (SWD LWML meeting manager). She has introduced me to LWML and supported my retreats. I have been amazed at her generosity and care. She has taken the time to introduce herself and be a friend. I was very new to our church when I met her which was a blessing. She took me under her wing and invited me to my first retreat where I learned about God’s gift of friendship. She has taught me a lot about caring for others. She leads me to peace and contentment. I thank the Lord for sending someone so special into my life. She gives a lot to me and has taught me to give to others.
From Amanda Buck, Sheboygan, WI
My mentor is my mother (an active LWML member and former missionary). I have learned so much about what is really important in this life--serving God and others, spreading the Gospel and putting others first from her. I like talking, cooking, walking, playing games, going shopping, watching movies, and reading with my mother. She is an amazing Christian role model; she is inspiring, encouraging, and always loving and patient. She is funny and caring. She is also a wonderful example of the mother I hope to be someday.
