A Request from our National President, Jan Wendorf.
Many of you may already be aware of the survey on LCMS women’s ministry that is being distributed by Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM). Many of our congregations and pastors have been contacted and asked to distribute the information about the survey to women in their churches. You may see things in church bulletins and newsletters.
The Executive Committee discussed this opportunity to explore possibilities with LHM at our August 2009 meeting. The decision was made to proceed with the first stage of surveying the needs and expectations. One of our guiding principles was our LWML Mission Statement which reads,
“The mission of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.”
Try as we might, we all know that there are some congregations and women who will not participate in LWML in any form; by partnering with LHM on this survey we are hoping to reach some of these churches and women and thereby gain valuable information for our planning.
At this point we are only committed to this stage of research and discovery. No LWML money has been spent on this project and none will be spent without approval from the Board of Directors. It is our intention to be able to share the results of the survey at the February 2010 Board of Directors meeting.
We hope to gain a broad sampling. Please help to communicate this to your ladies and encourage their participation.
