In May, 2009, I will be taking a mission trip to the country of Kyrgyzstan, which is a very poor country south of Russia.   We will be working under the direction of LCMS missionaries Bob and Sue Pfeil with Kyrzak women in small, local villages; women who are connected in some way to their church.  By leading Bible studies and showing them Christ's love, we pray that the Holy Spirit can work through our meager efforts to encourage them to reach out to other women who do not yet know Christ as Savior.  Mission Opportunities Short Term (MOST Ministries) (a Recognized Service Organization of the LCMS) is arranging our trip.

In addition to conducting 3 Bible studies each day, we also will have time for singing, fellowshipping and a few craft projects. One of the projects they will each make is a small, personal-size banner, depicting some aspect of their faith. This will serve to remind them of the love Jesus has for them and all people, and to also be a witness in their homes to visitors.

This is where the embroidery floss comes in. We will be taking scissors, banner material and needles along (they are so poor that many do not have enough to eat and to wear, let alone purchase optional things like this), but are in need of embroidery floss so they can illustrate their banners with colorful sewing.
If you have some leftovers that you would care to donate, please bring them to me when I see you again. I'd like to have the floss all packed and ready to go by the end of April.

In addition to the thread, I'd also appreciate your prayers that the five of us who are going (3 from Michigan and 1 from Iowa ) would be good witnesses to these women and to everyone we meet along the way.  Pray that the Holy Spirit will enable us to be the hands, feet, and heart for Jesus.  Also pray for good health and safety so we can do our work.

Our Team's mission statement is "…to glorify God by sharing His love revealed in the WORD to encourage, nurture and bond with the women of Kyrgyzstan; our theme is "Women to Women-Sharing God's Love."

Please let me know if you have any questions about the embroidery floss, about Kyrgyzstan or any aspect of this trip.

If you would like Carolyn's address, please contact the Webmaster.  Carolyn emphasises that she is not looking for donations of new floss -- just whatever leftovers you might care to donate.  Space in her suitcase is limited!
