2008 Assembly of Leaders Conference
Each of the 40 districts of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) sent new leaders to be trained at this event. Two hundred trainees from across the nation attended, including four from the South Wisconsin District.
Jan Dankwardt (new SWD LWML President), Jana Hoffmann (Chairman of the 2010 Convention Committee), Susan Vang (Past Chairman of the Heart to Heart Sisters Taskforce), and Carol Busse (Chairman of the Leader Development Committee) travelled to this event in order to better serve the women of the South Wisconsin District and improve each of their personal leadership skills. Also in attendance from the SWD to present to the AOL were: Jan Wendorf (current National LWML President) and Carolyn Blum (former SWD LWML President and current News Editor for the Official Publication Staff).
Attendees heard speakers address the LWML’s current primary targets and goals: Christ-centered Living, Telling the Good News, Partnering for Diversity, and Building Up Our Sisters in Christ. In addition, the Human Care, Gospel Outreach, Communication, Christian Life, and Servant Resources departments of the LWML gave presentations to familiarize the ladies with all the resources available to them and to fill them with more leader tips. MANY TIMES the participants (as well as ALL women) were encouraged to check out the latest information and happenings on the LWML website: www.lwml.org. The weekend also included fellowship, activities promoting diversity, singing, opportunities to study the Word of God, and a special closing worship service with Holy Communion. Each district’s representatives were also asked to form a plan to share what was learned with the women of their own districts in an effort to further develop others who will “Serve the Lord With Gladness” all over the nation.
