On Saturday, September 27th (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) the first-ever Lutheran “Folk Fair” highlighting ethnic ministries in the South Wisconsin District will be held at the gym of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 6717 W. Center Street, Wauwatosa. The whole community is invited and young and old will find something of interest.
Representatives from the Hmong, Hispanic, English- and French-speaking African immigrant ministries will be on hand to share their various cultures through music, singing, ethnic food and cultural dress. Area congregations that sponsor specialized mission trips are also invited to publicize their activities. You are invited to visit display tables of the various ethnic ministries, enjoy the music, taste unique ethnic foods (Hmong egg rolls, Mexican tacos, African meat pies, etc.) and gain a greater appreciation of our “oneness in Christ.” Each ethnic group will showcase their special culture during one-hour periods:
- 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. features the Hmong culture
- 11:00 – 12:00 noon features English-speaking African immigrant culture
- 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. features the Hispanic culture
- 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. features French-speaking African immigrant culture
Matching funds are being applied for through Thrivent Financial’s “Care Abounds in Community” program. Proceeds from this event will benefit the ethnic ministries sponsored by the South Wisconsin District. Other specialized ministry groups are invited to apply for participation. Financial “sponsors” are also welcome. For more information, contact the Pilgrim Church Office (414-476-0735).
