Why Should You Include
National LWML Convention
In Your Summer Plans?
1) National LWML conventions are
unforgettable mountaintop experiences - even when they take place on the plains of South Dakota! And it won't be closer until 2015 (you can cheer on our district as it competes with Iowa to host the event then.)
2) You will have the joy of
worshipping with thousands of Lutheran women from all over the U.S. and abroad. You can even sing in the convention choir if you desire.
3) The
Bible Studies and Communion Service will be uniquely inspiring. Proclaimer at the Communion services will be the
Rev. Dr. Dean Nadasdy, LCMS 3rd Vice President. He's an author of preaching resources, pastor of a large Minnesota congregation, guest seminary professor and has taught in Latvia and Hungary. Bible Study leader will be
Dr. Mary Manz Simon. She's the author of "Little Visits with Jesus" and writes a column,
Ahead of the Curve, for focus on the Family. The host of
Front Porch Parenting, a radio program that airs daily on 300 outlets, Dr. Simon is a trend tracker for publishers and family entertainment companies. As a speaker, she flies as mnay as 100,000 miles annually.
4) You'll hear
outstanding speakers. The 2007 keynoter will be Terry Kieschnick, wife of LCMS President Gerald Kieschnick.
5) You'll get
first-hand reports on exciting missions from Rev. Dr. Robert M. Roegner, executive director of the LCMS Board for Mission Services, Rev. Ray S. Wilke, founder and president of Orphan Grain Train, and Rev. Khurram and Cynthia Khan, missionaries with POBLO (People of the Book Lutheran Outreach). Pastor Khan has started a Lutheran Leadership Training Institute in Pakistan, funded by an LWML mission grant.
6) You'll be there to
support our Wisconsin teens who, as members of Friends Into Serving Him," will present a skit as part of Friday evening's entertainment. Also featured that evening will be Erin Bode, a singer whose musical group has performed nationwide and played two European tours.
7) You can load up your car with Ingathering
"Gifts from the Heart" to benefit agencies in Sioux Falls as well as Orphan Grain Train. See lists of needed items in the Winter
Lutheran Woman's Quarterly or the LWML website (
www.lwml.org).
8) You can help others by participating in
Servant Activities - build for Habitat for Humanity, sorting clothing for Orphan Grain train, assembling quilts, complete cough pillows, assemble baptismal banners for Native American Missions, or donate blood.
9) Be among the first to hear of our
new grants and new officers. Cheer on Jan Wendorf of South Wisconsin who is a nominee for national LWML president. Enjoy the
display area where you can learn about dozens of Lutheran missions and agencies.
10) The convention makes a
great family vacation - your children will enjoy Camp ROCK and trips to an aquatic Center, a Science Discovery Center and a zoo. Enroute you can sightsee at interesting places like the Eros Data Center, which coordinates our country's program of photographing earth and its buildings from satellites.
