Two Weeks to Finish Strong. Reprinted from the National website:
The Hope Center for Refugees and Immigrants has been able to:
- support the ministry of Francois Banyeretse who leads a Swahili-speaking Lutheran worshipping community of refugees from Burundi;
- add a new English class that serves about 50 new African refugees each week;
- transport about 40 refugee school-aged children to and from after-school tutoring programs; and
- reach more than 100 adult refugees, most of whom are not Christian, through "New American Cafes" that are held at local churches. Volunteers teach about American currency, road signs, holidays, college/career options and the differences between various world religions. Building Hope in the City staff explains Christianity's core beliefs and shares their personal faith in Jesus as their Savior. Refugees are provided with the "Jesus" DVD as a gift for attending.
