FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN.  On September 24th and 25th, we were invited to help fill food packets to send to starving children all over the world through the “Feed My Starving Children Project.” When we arrived at Concordia in Mequon, we were shown a movie about how this group reaches out to children who are severely malnourished and gives them the meal that many of them need to stay alive.

After receiving instructions, we were able to work in many different ways to get the meals on their way. Some of us put labels on the plastic bags that held enough food for one day for one child. Others took these small plastic bags and packed them with a special formula that is scientifically fortified to meet the needs of children suffering from starvation. They were filled with Chicken, Rice, Soy Beans and Corn. These are called Mana Pak – Rice. These packets contain a food mixture that is culturally accepted worldwide, and simple to make with only boiling water. Then these bags were heat sealed and the packets piled up and placed in shipping boxes. They were closed and put on a wood pallet and finally shrink wrapped for shipment. It was all done by volunteers from start to finish. The cost of the ingredients is only 19 cents a day.

After the boxes were all piled up and ready to go, when we were at the end of our shift, anyone who was interested could join the staff of FMSC and lay their hands on the boxes while a prayer was said for the children that would be receiving this life saving gift. In 2009, 96 million meals were produced by 416,000 volunteers.

This was an emotional time for many as we thought of the children who are in so much need. If you ever have a chance to help with this mission outreach to children, I would highly recommend it. It’s almost like doing a mission trip right here in Wisconsin.
