LWML GRANT GIVEN TO ISAIAH 49 PROGRAM. The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) at convention in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in June of 2007 voted to grant the Isaiah 49 Program $80,000 for the development and implementation of educational opportunities. The LWML is pleased to announce that the remainder of that grant money, in the amount of $20,150, has been disbursed to the Isaiah 49 Program. Marilyn McClure, LWML Vice President of Gospel Outreach rejoices: “Praise the Lord that He is moving the hearts of LWML women to provide for ministries such as these!”
The Isaiah 49 Program, Preparing for Service in Child Welfare, is a grant-funded initiative based on the Bible passage from Isaiah 49:15-16a: Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. The goal of the program is to create opportunities for students from across the Concordia University System, who have a passion for working in child welfare, to receive educational, spiritual, and vocational training that will motivate and prepare them for future service to vulnerable children in public and private agencies, including those affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Currently, the Isaiah 49 Program offers child welfare internships, service-learning mission projects, service-learning mission trips, summer institutes and educational presentations. The Program is offered to all Concordia University System students and administered by Concordia University, Texas.
