LWML President Addresses 7th LWML-Canada Convention.  President Janice Wendorf brought greetings from the LWML to the over 200 assembled at the seventh Convention of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League-Canada on Saturday morning, July 10, 2009 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as they celebrated 16 years since forming the organization in Edmonton in June of 1993.

Relating a dinner conversation with one of the women on Thursday evening about LWML – Canada and LWML being sisters, Jan noted that sisters share clothes: “My sister’s closet becomes my closet too” and commented that she has been “raiding the closet” and making notes on ideas the LWML might also find useful.

The LWML President gave an overview to the convention on three successful programs of the LWML: Young Women Representatives offers an introduction to the LWML on the national level; Heart to Heart Sisters intentionally teams LWML with LCMS women of different cultures and ethnicity; and the teen initiative, Friends into Serving Him. Each of these programs offers encouragement to these specific groups of women and insight into the work of the LWML.

Sharing her vision for the LWML, President Wendorf related three aspects which are tied together: Women who are in the Word – studying God’s Word on a regular basis; Women who are nurtured by the Word – reading God’s Word daily to find His direction and guidance for their lives; Women who are Walking with the Lord – allowing God’s Word to work in them, to change them as it applies to their daily lives.

During their four day convention the Canada women worshipped together, elected officers, enjoyed great fellowship and approved a Mission Grants Goal for the 2009-2012 Triennium in the amount of $125,000, an increase of $25,000 from the previous goal. Judy Grande was re-elected President for the next Triennium.

Using the acronym STAR, President Wendorf concluded that we are Sisters Teamed together Active in prayer and service Redeemed by His love; because of what God has done for us in Christ Jesus, we “get” to “Shine like Stars.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. For over 65 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions.

Young Women’s Retreat Feb. 5-6, 2010 in Lake Geneva.  Theme: Living a Chocolate Life.

Featured Speaker: Deb Burma will share how we can savor the rich
indulgences of God’s Grace in our lives.

Each of us have had those days when it feels like nothing can go wrong. We
wake up happy, get everything done we had planned, make that perfect meal,
get that clean bill of health from the doctor, and have that great
conversation with a friend.

But what about the rest of our days that aren’t quite as wonderful nor
filled with sweet memories? Each of us needs to be reminded of God’s
Grace and presence in our life, especially when we are suffering through
those dark days. God does work to the good of those who love Him and He
will restore you and make you strong.

Come and enjoy some wonderful fellowship with your sisters in Christ and
return home with the sweet awareness of God’s Grace in your life.
All ages are welcome to the Young Women’s Retreat. Come one, come all
and savor God’s rich Grace in your life!
