Now that the suitcases have been unpacked from the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League 2009 convention in Portland, the pictures of your new-found Sisters-in-Christ have been downloaded to your computers, and you prepare to give reports to your Zones, don’t forget to emphasize our purpose from ages past - - OUTREACH!

Isaiah 52: 7 reminds us of the joy hearts receiving the Word of the Lord can be filled with.

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, Who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God Reigns!’”

I urge you to peruse through the many ideas for Human Care OUTREACH listed in the LWML publication With Care and Compassion found in the 2009 – 2010 LWML catalogue on page 51.  Seventeen compassion-filled ideas are listed to guide your OUTREACH to Armed Forces Ministry, Campus Ministry, Ethnic Ministry, Literacy, Missionary Support, MOST Ministries, Prison Ministry, and Seminary Support to name only a portion.

We are instructed in Matthew 5: 14 – 16, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Knowing full well that “it is by grace we have been saved, and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast,” we share our love for our Lord and His love for others through our OUTREACH. What better gift can we give to the world around each of us but the love of God?  Help your societies gear up for this venture by using the Human Care devotion found at www.lwml.org, click Human Care, and Devotion. Incorporate this into your Fall Rallies to kick start your OUTREACH.

May you serve in gladness,

Barb Kaun
