Collect Unused Greeting Cards for use by Women at Taycheedah

We often hear about the work and ministry that is accomplished at the County Correctional Facility-South (formerly known as the House of Correction) in Franklin.  But there are also other prison ministry opportunities. Taycheedah Correctional Institution (TCI), the State of Wisconsin women's prison, is one such opportunity.  Located just northeast of Fond du Lac, TCI is visible from the Hwy 151 bypass.

About eight years ago, the practice of collecting unused greeting cards for the women inmates was started at a District parish nurse network meeting.  Their guest speaker was a chaplain from TCI who gave them the idea.  The unused cards that are donated are sorted and made available to the inmates for their use.  They are very much appreciated by the women of TCI.  Christian cards are also accepted and used!

Perhaps this simple project of collecting unused greeting cards and note cards, Christian and secular, for this act of mercy and outreach through the parish nurse network can be a future ingathering at your zone rally.

Mary Jean Lange, a parish nurse, at Hope Lutheran in Fond du Lac will collect the cards and arrange for their delivery to TCI.  Cards should be delivered to Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent Street in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
